New Burner Rule

From 1 November 2017 only wood burners and pellet fires on the Ministry for the Environment's Authorised Wood Burner List, that have an emission discharge of no more than 0.6 g/kg (grams of particles per kilogram of dry wood burned), can be installed in homes in the Rotorua Urban Airshed.

How is the new burner rule being enforced?

From 1 November 2017 Rotorua Lakes Council will only issue Building Consents to burners that are on the Ministry for the Environment's Authorised Wood Burner List, that have an emission discharge of no more than 0.6 g/kg (grams of particles per kilogram of dry wood burned).

Go to the Ministry For The Environment website to view the list of authorised woodburners, requirements for woodburners in urban areas and frequently asked questions on installation in urban areas.

Why do we need to restrict the type of wood burners being installed?

By limiting burners that meet this emission rating we will reduce the smoke and pollution in Rotorua's air.
